One killed in Kashmir grenade attack
One person died and at least 34 were wounded yesterday in a grenade attack in Indianadministered Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar. It was the bloodiest incident since New Delhi stripped the region of its long-held autonomy and statehood on August 5. The wounded, including three Indian paramilitary police, were admitted to hospital after the blast on Hari Singh High Street in the centre of the city, Indian officials said. The Muslim-majority Kashmir valley claimed by both India and Pakistan has been in turmoil since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government revoked its special status. India also shut down the internet and arrested thousands in a crackdown it said was aimed at preventing unrest.
