Dutch drug case lawyer attacked in Germany
A Dutch lawyer was shot in Germany yesterday, with the attack being linked to his work on drugs cases. Philippe Schol is the second lawyer from the Netherlands to be attacked in two months after Derk Wiersum was shot and killed in front of his Amsterdam home in September and was representing a protected witness in a case involving several killings in the drug scene. Dutch authorities were aware of threats made against Mr Schol, who was hit in the leg but is not in a life-threatening condition. Gun violence remains rare in the Netherlands and the killing of Wiersum was unprecedented, but Amsterdam has experienced an upsurge in drug-related crimes.
