Spread peace to honour Adam’s legacy, believers told

Peace was the first thing Adam was taught and is the means by which love spreads, the sermon will tell worshippers on Friday.

When God created Adam and breathed spirit into him, Adam sneezed and then praised God. So, the first words Adam uttered were in praise of God.

He was then commanded to spread peace among the angels and say: “Peace be upon You, and the Mercy of Allah.”

The thing that Adam learnt was peace and he has called for it in heaven and on Earth.

Peace is the means by which love spreads among mankind.

The Prophet Mohammed said: “You shall not enter Paradise so long as you do not affirm belief and you will not believe as long as you do not love one another. Should I not direct you to a thing which, if you do, will foster love amongst you: spread peace amongst you.”

Knowledge is the greatest thing a person can gather for it is the means by which civilisation is built and by which happiness is obtained.

God created a mate for Adam from his own self that he might dwell in security with her. God put Adam and his wife in Paradise and gave permission to eat from all the trees of Paradise except one.

The tree was a test of Adam’s spiritual resolve. But Satan beautified this tree and told Adam and his wife that he was a sincere adviser.

Adam forgot his covenant with God but repented. The Lord turned to him in forgiveness. This is the model by which God forgives every sincere repentance.

The Prophet Mohammed said: “All children of Adam make mistakes but the best of those who make mistakes are the repentant.”

All of us are the children of Adam.

“Oh Mankind: Indeed Your Lord is One. Indeed Your Father is One. Indeed there is no preference of an Arab over a non-Arab, and none for a non-Arab over an Arab. Nor for the fair over the dark, nor for the dark over the fair, except by the degree of God-consciousness,” the Prophet Mohammed said.
