Dubai bus crash leaves two dead and 12 injured

Two people died and 12 were injured in a road accident in Dubai yesterday morning.

A minibus veered off the road and crashed into a cement barrier on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Witnesses said the crash left the vehicle on its side and ablaze underneath Al Manara Bridge.

Brig Gen Saif Al Mazrouei, director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said the accident took place at about 8.30am.

Another serious accident happened at 10.30am on Al Khawaneej Road when a private vehicle crashed into a lorry.

Emergency workers pulled the driver from the car.

The driver and passengers were taken to Rashid Hospital.

Police issued a warning on social media of several accidents that caused serious traffic congestion in the emirate.

“Traffic congestion due to multiple accidents on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road after Dubai Al Ain Bridge towards Abu Dhabi, kindly take extra caution,” police said on Twitter.

“Also traffic congestion on Sheikh Zayed Road on Al Manara Bridge towards Abu Dhabi.”
