Five dead in Lagos building collapse
At least five people have been killed in a building collapse in the Nigerian city of Lagos. Many people are feared trapped under the threestorey residential building, the emergency services said yesterday. Sixteen adults and seven children have been rescued, said Ibrahim Farinloye, a spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency. A mother and son are among the dead, he said. The building collapsed late on Sunday in a city that is home to more than 14 million people. Civilians have joined emergency workers searching through the rubble for survivors. The authorities face accusations of failing to enforce safety regulations.
