Five dead in Lagos building collapse

At least five people have been killed in a building collapse in the Nigerian city of Lagos. Many people are feared trapped under the threestore­y residentia­l building, the emergency services said yesterday. Sixteen adults and seven children have been rescued, said Ibrahim Farinloye, a spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency. A mother and son are among the dead, he said. The building collapsed late on Sunday in a city that is home to more than 14 million people. Civilians have joined emergency workers searching through the rubble for survivors. The authoritie­s face accusation­s of failing to enforce safety regulation­s.
