Mosque in India to be named after Abu Dhabi fire victim

- ALI AL SHOUK

A charity volunteer who died in a fire in Abu Dhabi will have a mosque in India named after her.

Fatima Al Hosani and five others were killed when the blaze tore through their villa in Baniyas.

The Emirates Red Crescent said the dedicated volunteer would have a place of worship built in her name in India, where the non-profit organisation carries out vital work.

“The Emirates Red Crescent Authority extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of the volunteer Fatima Mohammed Al Hosani,” the authority tweeted on the night of the fire. “May Allah inspire her family with solace and patience.”

The non-profit organisation has launched a Dh110,000 project to build a mosque and a well in India to honour those killed in the fire. They will be constructed in the name of sadaqah jariyah, the Arabic phrase for charity that benefits people even after death.

On Wednesday, the authority urged the public to donate money to help build a kindergarten in Kyrgyzstan at a cost of Dh261,000, also in memory of the six killed.

The Emirates Red Crescent plays a role in many building projects in various countries as part of its humanitarian commitment to help disadvantaged people around the world.

It focuses mainly on Africa and Asia to help communities regardless of their ethnic, cultural, geographical or religious status.

The locations chosen have no direct link to those killed but are in areas where the organisation has a presence.

Meanwhile, tributes have poured in on social media from community members in the UAE, friends and relatives since the fire.

Abdulaziz Al Hammadi posted a picture of a child – who also died in the blaze – with his father alongside an image of the house damaged by the fire, and offered condolences to the family.

“May God grant you patience and solace. We belong to Allah and to Allah we shall return,” he wrote in a tweet.

Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, chairman of the Department of Community Development, attended the funeral on Monday night and sent condolences to the father of Ms Al Hosani.

“The department offers deepest condolences to the family and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured,” it tweeted.
