All that and dim sum
New restuarant Han Shi Fu comes from the team behind Din Tai Fung, writes Amy Mathieson
Ever seemingly spent hours waiting for a table at Din Tai Fung at Mall of the Emirates? If you love dim sum, we’re guessing the answer is yes. And so there’s exciting news for fans of Chinese cooking – a brand-new restaurant is opening this week, from the team behind the popular mall eatery.
Han Shi Fu is opening this Thursday (December 6) at Aloft City Centre Deira – the cinemathemed hotel – and Time Out Dubai has been for a look behind the scenes.
Billed by the team as a “young and trendy Asian fusion gastropub and restaurant” Han Shi Fu promises “authentic dishes with an infusion of bold flavours”.
Dishes on the exciting new menu include crystal ray crab dumplings, charcoal gold dust umami bao, Grandma Han’s duck congee and matcha green tea velvet cake. There are also bar bites such as soy butter popcorn, ramen burgers and foie gras sliders, so far, so fancy.
“The characterful venue maps out a culinary journey through the dynamic urban cities of Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, New York and Los Angeles,” says the team behind it.
And it’s not just somewhere to eat – by night, a resident DJ will entertain the dim sumlovers further. The restaurant has a bar, as well as several different dining areas, and décor includes traditional Chinese scrolls and ceramic wall decorations.
Meanwhile Din Tai Fung is also opening a new “upmarket branch” in The Dubai Mall – with outdoor seating and views of The Dubai Fountain.
The Taiwanese chain plans to open the restaurant in December. The team told Time Out Dubai that it will be the “most luxurious” branch so far, with a bright colour scheme and plush furniture rather than the stripped-back and casual feel of the Mall of the Emirates and Al Ghurair Centre branches, although prices will remain affordable.
Now, pass us that basket of dumplings.
