Time Out Dubai - - FOOD -

WHEN IT COMES to dining out in Dubai, Downtown Dubai isn’t short of places to go to take in some top views. However, if you’re after a sports bar with the Burj Khalifa in your sights, Player Sports Bar & Terrace is the one for you.

The bar was previously housed on the 31st floor of the Sofitel Downtown Dubai, but the space has since been taken over by Georgian restaurant Modi, while the sports bar has relocated downstairs, and now boasts a massive terrace.

In winter this is a top place to grab a drink and a bite to eat, alongside a crowd made up mainly of those who work in the area.

Food-wise, it’s not the best you’ll find in the city, but if you’re into fried stuff you’ll be happy enough. A limited bar menu stars nachos, pizzas, sliders – all familiar faces.

There are a couple of token salads (including a quinoa and broccoli version), but really who goes to a sports bar for their five-a-day? We order up a “Big Shoot” sharing platter consisting of a bounty of beige food, starring chicken tenders, fried halloumi sticks, vegetable spring rolls and Cajun fries. We also opt for a chicken quesadilla. It’s all fine, if not remarkable, and fills a snack-shaped gap.

Meanwhile there are darts, pool tables, foosball and hops pong to keep you entertained. And there are heaps of screens of varying sizes to catch the match.

We’ll be back for the bar, but we’ll pass on the food next time.

WHAT IS IT... A decent al fresco sports bar

WHY GO... For the deals, views and sports. Not the food
