Time Out Dubai - - MUSIC & NIGHTLIFE -

THIS BRITISH WATERING hole will remind you of your local back home, with dim lighting, wooden furnishings and dark leather that’s all a bit Rovers Return.

There’s a mixture of cosy booths, scattered tables and high stools and when we visit for a midweek bev, the venue is busy with the post-work crowd.

Despite the amount of people, however, it’s weirdly quiet volume-wise.

It seems like punters have stopped by for a lone pint rather than a social get-together and we feel as though our conversation soon becomes public knowledge.

There’s sport showing on a multitude of screens and a menu featuring heavily in steaks and burgers that’s reasonable, though drinks prices are high for the setting – with a glass of grape setting you back the same as it would if you were visiting the far classier rooftop bar Level 43 in the same hotel. Visit during happy hour – daily between 6pm and 8pm – for a better deal. Or would be, if we could get served.

We wait for a good ten minutes at the bar before we even get a drinks menu, at which point staff disappear only to wander back after a lengthy pause, by which stage we are positively parched.

The pub itself is laid-back and a good stop-off on the way home, though we wouldn’t venture out of our way for the pleasure – or for a private conversation.
