Five tips for aspiring musicians

-

White Cube Studios, a music centre in Abu Dhabi, provides recording and sound services to bands and musicians looking to take their voices to the next level. Featuring an acoustically treated live room with a five-piece drum set, microphones, amps, and guitars, it’s the place to go to get started if you’re serious about your music. Studio manager Elia Mssawir gives his tips for breaking into the music scene in the capital.

Become a good musician people will want to listen to. You need to sit in your bedroom with your music and practise. If you are serious about your art make sure to know your music and your instrument and try to master it.

Jam with the right people. By right people I mean other musicians that are on the same page as you when it comes to music. Otherwise you might lose interest and stop playing.

Attend shows and learn from established bands/musicians. You need to attend shows and concerts. Musicians who make music their priority are capable of teaching you a lot. Ask questions, sit with them and listen to their stories – they were in your shoes once.

Don’t rush things. As an upcoming artist, don’t rush into recording or playing live. The crowd here in the capital is supportive of young and new artists; however, they won’t tolerate bad musicians.

Take every opportunity you get. Abu Dhabi can be a hard place to promote your music but a lot of opportunities come and go. Take them all! You never know who is watching.
