What's On (Abu Dhabi)

EDItor’S letter

-

TThe editor’s letter. A page – or, occasionally, two or three pages, depending on how much the editor thinks their opinion is worth – of editorial wisdom; where the editor gives valuable (ahem) insight, relating, usually, to that month’s issue. Makes sense, I suppose. Editors, their magazine, let’s hear what they have to say – bound to deeply revealing on the subject, right? Yeah… You see, this month, What’s On Abu Dhabi goes into the desert, for an off-roading, camping adventure. Camping. In tents. I mean, look at me. Now imagine that face near a tent. Not happening, is it? I am to camping what Donald Trump is to diplomacy. I have zero interest in camping, even less interest in tents, and no desire ever to change that. In fact, the last time I went anywhere near a tent I was just a young lad, and the entire camping idea was based around a dawn raid to steal the neighbours’ milk delivery. And if that wanton act of youth delinquency appals you, worry not, karma soon intervened to even out the score by ensuring someone stole our shoes, and the tent poles – you read that right, the actual tent poles – as we slept. So, no, sorry, camping’s not for me. The sheer genius of a magazine like What’s On, however, means that we can reach out to those of you who do like camping – and I appreciate that there are probably more of you than the anti-tent brigade like me. We can also pack in enough other good stuff to keep everyone happy. Such as the city’s most romantic restaurants for Valentine’s Day (I recommend the Thai outlet Sontaya, at the St Regis – especially when they light lanterns on the water around the restaurant). Or our favourite swimming pools to try. Or the capital’s best spa treatments. Or a pick of any one of the great new restaurants we’re featuring this month.

In short, Abu Dhabi has it all going on this month, and What’s On is there for you. Just as long as you don’t ask me to pack a tent.

Enjoy the issue.
