Blu Sky A super-slick sports bar opens in the capital
It looks like a cross between a UFO and a TV studio, but Blu Sky, Abu Dhabi’s newest sports bar, could quickly become the venue of choice for fans needing a fix of football, rugby and more.
You’ll find it inside the Southern Sun hotel, just down from the Corniche heading towards Mina, and it’s one of the slickestlooking bars to open in the city, if you’re looking for somewhere to cheer on your team. Panels of hexagons line the walls and crisp, clean, white bar stools stand to attention alongside the curved main bar. Everywhere you look there are gigantic TV screens. All sorts of sports are shown here, and as it has a similar feel to the ESPNthemed bars you find in America, it’d be the ideal spot to watch the NFL Super Bowl early this month.
One thing though might irk some fans of English football – huge pictures of the Manchester City team line the wall. Granted, the Premier League giants are owned by Abu Dhabi’s ruling family, but it might put off a few fans who support rival teams.
There’s a rather neat VIP room at the back with even more TVs in it, plus a huge and pleasing variety of brews on tap. Pub grub in the form of burger and wings are also served.
Blu Sky is also offering customers plenty of incentives to visit, including happy hours, plus the chance to get your bill paid for you if you predict the score of matches being played on the big screen. Overall, this is the kind of place What’s On will happily visit to watch a game on a weekend.
