-

s a multiple Ironman winner and 2012 Triathlon European long distance champion, triathlete Timo Bracht is at the forefront of his sport. Since claiming his first professional title at Ironman France in 1993, the 40-year-old German has gone on to achieve international success, most recently seizing gold in the Ironman Mallorca 2015. His reputation in the sport recently saw him named as a brand ambassador for tri bike brand Quintana Roo, now available in the UAE for the first time at Ride Bike Shops. If you’re taking part in TriYas at Yas Marina Circuit on February 26, Timo’s got some top tips to ensure you excel on the bike, in the water and on your feet as well.

Find your balance “Training is everything in triathlons and it’s fun – when you’re tired on your bike, you can swim, and when you’re tired of swimming, you run. But people get a little carried away, they train all the time and they forget about their social life. So my advice to beginners is, firstly, train more, but secondly, don’t forget the fun part of your life.”

nutrition is key

“When people drop out of races, the first reason is always a nutrition problem. You need to be able to put in the amount of calories you’ll use during a race. When I’m at home, I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with lots of fish and a little meat. But during training or racing, you need to be prepared to eat and drink on the bike. I test out a lot of products during the year so I know what I’m doing. Like course training, nutrition training is also important. You have to be prepared.”
