FOR FOODIES
King crab
On board Hurtigruten’s vessels, diners can enjoy some of the freshest seafood imaginable. Salmon caught daily is served on deck, along with a shot of cod liver oil (if that takes your fancy) with a daily buffet. The ultimate treat is a whopping 5kg king crab with meat so delicious you’ll want the whole thing.
Seafood market
The city of Bergen is a great place to visit surrounded by mountains on one side and the coast on the other. The town’s 260,000 residents get their grub from a delightful food market with free samples of seafood and reindeer available. The city hosts a larger one-day market on June 9. q visitbergen.com
Fiskekompaniet restaurant
Seafood and a sea view go hand-in-hand and this restaurant is one of the most popular in Tromso. Choose between prawns or oysters for starters followed by a pan-fried wolffish for the main. If you’re not in the mood for fish, fear not, there’s a beef option too. q fiskekompani.no
Bacalao
Travelling the Atlantic Road is the perfect time to dine out on a local speciality – clipfish, known in Norway as bacalao. Served as a stew with rice and potatoes, this dried, salted, fish is the perfect meal to keep warm. The locals keep it refrigerated for as long as a year before finally serving.
