Abu Dhabi to host its first marathon

Pros and am­a­teurs can com­pete this De­cem­ber

Think you’ve got what it takes to run 42.2km? Abu Dhabi is host­ing its in­au­gu­ral marathon this De­cem­ber, with a route that’ll take in the city’s land­marks such as the Cor­niche.

The 26.2m run­ning event is open to all fit­ness lev­els and run­ners will also be able to take part in a se­ries of smaller events, in­clud­ing 2.5km and 5km fun runs, and a 10km event.

In­ter­na­tional ath­letes are ex­pected to take part, but the race is also open to the whole com­mu­nity, whether you run, walk, take part in a wheel­chair or push a buggy. There will also be chil­dren’s ac­tiv­i­ties and en­ter­tain­ment ac­tiv­i­ties through­out the day.

The Ad­noc Abu Dhabi Marathon is or­gan­ised by Abu Dhabi Sports Coun­cil and has been given Bronze La­bel sta­tus from the In­ter­na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion Of Ath­let­ics Fed­er­a­tion (IAAF) and it is hoped the cap­i­tal’s race can reach Gold La­bel sta­tus, which has al­ready awarded to its Lon­don and Bos­ton coun­ter­parts.
