Celebrated harpist Xavier de Maistre comes to town

Toulon-born Xavier de Maistre was faced with a difficult choice as a young adult. Equally talented as a lawyer as he is gifted at playing the harp, would he pursue a career in the legal system or the tumultuous world of the arts? Luckily, it was famous harpist Nicanor Zabaleta who shared some sage words of wisdom with the plucky young musician just at the right time: “You know, there are thousands of good lawyers but there is only one harpist like you.” Since then, Xavier has pursued an illustrious international career as a soloist in recitals and as part of chamber music ensembles. He is also the first French musician to be admitted into the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and is often considered to be the world’s top harp musician, almost single-handedly responsible for making the instrument popular once again. He has worked hard to explore different compositions written for the harp and created his own trademark style. For his first appearances in the UAE, de Maistre plays a programme inspired by Spanish classical music.
