Salad, ceviche and superfood bowls at this popular and healthconscious brunch

-

Imagine if the country spent its time eating ceviche, roasted salmon, fresh veggies and fruit. The obesity epidemic wouldn’t stand a chance. Or it might be a start, at least.

In a bid to help make the capital a healthier city, Nolu’s has launched its D’Tox brunch, which has already caused quite the stir in Abu Dhabi’s fitness circles.

On the menu you’ll find dishes such as superfood green bowls, filled with quinoa, chicken, kale, edamame, coriander and guacamole, and topped with a lemon and tahini dressing. Also available to order – and a Nolu’s highlight – is the grilled kabab, served with quinoa. We also opted for a few small plates: the green tostada arrives as layers of crisp spinach tortilla topped with finely chopped cucumber, tomatillo salsa, jalapeno, pomegranate seeds and feta cubes. It packs a lovely warm punch, thanks to the jalapeno, and is best eaten layer by layer. The avocado Benedict, featuring a tasty, tangy hollandaise, was served with sprinkles of sunflower seeds and sprouts. It would have been nice to have the English muffin base toasted, though.

There’s a buffet display as well, featuring a salad bar, complete with protein options (puy lentils, feta, nuts and seeds), alongside explanations of all their nutritional benefits. Then there’s the (more exciting) ceviche bar. Cheerful chefs create delicious bowls made-to-order combining raw tuna, jalapeno, pepper, diced red onion and coriander, cured in a lemon juice-ginger dressing. A spoonful of passion fruit provided a tangy finish. Other highlights include the all-you-can-drink cold-press juices, the raw veggie spring rolls and the baked salmon with roast potatoes – not the usual Friday afternoon feast you’re used to, but one that your body will thank you for.
