1. He was “born a crime”, as he puts it. His mother was black, his father was white, and in South Africa where he grew up, his parents’ relationsh­ip was illegal under apartheid.

2. His first taste at fame was in a South African soap opera, Isidingo, when he was 18.

3. A man of many talents, Noah speaks several languages including English, Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Tswana, Tsongan, Afrikaans and some German and Spanish.

4. His book Born A Crime, Stories From A South African Childhood is named after one of his earlier stand-up shows, which focused on his difficult childhood.

5. He’s always had a knack for debate. When he was in grade school, Noah and his mum would regularly spar like lawyers, “debating over loopholes and technicali­ties”.

6. He once convinced highschool students that he was Busta Rhymes’ hype man and performed a rap on stage and even got paid for it.

7. He appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and was the first South African comic to appear on The Daily Show and The Late Show with David Letterman.

8. Noah’s brand new Netflix special Son Of Patricia was released on November 20.
