Mary Poppins Returns
Is it practically perfect in every way?
It’s been 54 years since we last witnessed enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins float down from the clouds. And most of us are now adults with adult jobs, adult stresses and adult responsibilities – with families of our own. Even one of Mary’s original children Michael is having trouble adulting, so she decides it is time to pay the Banks’ another visit. This isn’t simply a sequel, it’s a long-awaited intervention of pure, unadulterated joy. There are new songs – like the supercalifragilistic ‘Can You Imagine That?’ – new characters, including Mary’s lamplighter friend Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda, whose cockney accent is a solid 7/10 on the Dick Van Dyke scale) and as for Emily Blunt, well, she’s expialidocious!
