Golf ’s stars head for the capital for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship
The 14th edition of the awardwinning Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship will see yet another stunning line-up of the world’s best golfers at the capital’s Golf Club, from January 16 to 19.
First staged in 2006, the tournament has quickly evolved into one of the strongest events on the European Tour, regularly attracting the world’s elite players to the Middle East at the start of the season. Its importance in the golfing world was elevated further when news broke that it has taken the Open de France’s slot as one of the tour’s elite Rolex Series events for the 2018-2019 season. In a nutshell that means a US$4 million prize fund increase to $7 million. That should translate to an even stronger field for the January 16 to 19 Desert Swing opener.
Two-time defending champion, Ryder Cup rookie sensation, and current Race to Dubai title challenger Tommy Fleetwood is back to headline the event on Wednesday. Also teeing off is the former world No.1 Dustin Johnson and current world No. 1 Brooks Koepka. That’s three of the current top players on the planet, all making their way to the capital, with more announcements to come.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP HAS BECOME SOMETHING OF AN INSTITUTION IN ABU DHABI
