1. Ride the waves

Anyone with a taste for adventure has to attempt kitesurfing at the beach on the edge of Yas Island. Drive along the Sheikh Khalifa highway and you can’t miss the soaring kites dipping and bobbing by the shore. There are kitesurfers of all abilities and instructors will offer lessons. kitepro.ae

With a hotel strip occupying one cluster of the island – not to mention a host of eateries lining the marina – you’re not short of choices for dining experiences. In particular we love Filini Garden for sundowners, Cipriani for proper Italian grub, but with the new Yas Bay bringing a plethora of new restaurants, including the brilliant Akiba Dori (p38), there’s now even more to explore.

3. Aim for the horizon

Designed by Kyle Phillips, the 18-hole course at Yas Links Abu Dhabi was the first links course built in the Middle East. Offering state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, the course has lush greenery and waterfront views.
