Celebrating the leading lights of the city at the… What’s On Dubai Awards

One of the best bits of my job is championing wonderful people. And few nights do that better than the What’s On Awards. This year was truly memorable, as it was brought to an abrupt end by an almighty downpour. The silver lining? Visiting the remaining winners and presenting them with plaques personally.

Immersing myself in a new digital art space at… Immersee

When I found out about Immersee, the new digital art space in Sustainable City, I couldn’t wait to visit. I loved their short film selection showcasing some eye-opening stories on how we treat the planet. Immersee also offers up a wellness programme, which includes yoga, sound healing and meditation. After a busy week, sound healing sounds like just the ticket. @immersee

Fueling my board game addiction with… Catan Universe

Catan Universe is a boardgame where you play as colonists trying to settle an untouched land. You build settlements upgrade them to cities and connect them with roads. It’s a game of trading, deception and strategy. I think my longest rally of games that I played against my boyfriend is about seven games in a row – send help. catanuniverse.com – Shelby Gee, Junior Reporter

Finally… Graduating

I felt a bit silly pulling up to my graduation ceremony a whole year after leaving university, but I still did it, praying I didn’t trip over anything or anyone during my two seconds on stage. I can finally say I’m a university graduate and I did it with some of the best people in my life by my side. – Manaal Fatimah, Junior Reporter

Spoiling a film by reading the book it’s based on… Mickey 7

The next directorial work from Bong Joon-Ho will be Mickey 17. It’s the adaptation of the sci-fi novel, Mickey7 – syncing its cybernetic teeth into the subject of uploaded consciousness. Mickey is an ‘Expendable’ worker on an ice world colony. Each time he dies, a new clone is spawned with the prior incarnation’s memories. Immortality in purgatory, sweet. amazon.com

Supporting local while staying fresh with… Emirates Pride

Every time I walk through a mall, those scent kiosk guys pounce on me. Just count the tester strips in my pocket. There are some diamonds though – like Emirates Pride. I’ve tried their Hidden Tobacco and Masters scents. Notes of spice, wood, smoke, and vanilla. Priced slightly on the higher side, but you’re paying for a high-class product. emiratespride.com
