Sound to the Irish Village

Midge Ure – he sounds like an anagram.

His real name’s James Ure. Jim is short for James and if you say Jim backwards, it sounds like Midge.

Right. He was in a band?

He was in Visage – they had a hit with Fade To Grey. But he’s best known for Ultravox.

They sound futuristic.

Exactly. Their electronic sound was heavy on the synths. Dancing With Tears In My Eyes, Love’s Great Adventure, and Reap The Wild Wind. But their biggest hit was Vienna in 1981.

Vienna? This means nothing to me.

Yeah, very funny. Anyway, he quit the band in 1985 to go solo.

Ultravox reunited in 2009 and played some gigs.
