NRG FITNESS
What to expect With a fist pump and a “cheers, bro”, NRG Fitness sets the tone of your workout as soon as you walk through the doors. The Marina’s newest boutique gym is an affable place, full of brandspanking new equipment and friendly trainers (conveniently lulling you into a false sense of security before they torture you with burpees). The workout But it’s the exercise we’re all here for – and exercise you will. You won’t find any treadmills or ellipticals here; NRG focuses on group training and has a full timetable with a mix of original classes, and others sourced from Les Mills. There’s everything from BodyPump, to HIIT, to swing yoga and pole fitness – so you basically have no need to go to anywhere else.
Exuberant Kiwi trainer Grant will have you sweating more than you knew humanly possible after a 45-minute HIIT class (all whilst maintaining a friendly smile, the occasional shaka and “sweet as” attitude), while hardened Scotswoman Sharan has devised a punishing Ride class, incorporating HIIT, cardio and squats – all on a bike. HIIT is our personal favourite. The circuits are interesting, the exercises challenging, and we left the room 45 minutes later feeling like we’d worked off six Big Macs. Perks Think walls adorned with colourful murals and inspirational quotes, sleek hardwood floors, on-trend LED lights, a high-end integrated computer system, and some superb showering facilities. If you’re bored with tired classes at the bigger gym chains, or want a small training group focused on personal results, test your sweat glands at NRG.
