What's On (Dubai) - - CONTENTS -

Seven hotly anticipated blockbusters coming to Dubai this month. Plus, a look at the movies made in the UAE

Although his first comic book flick The Green Lantern flopped, Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds convinced Hollywood to take a punt on his boyhood superhero obsession – the D-list comic book mercenary known as Deadpool. Cobbled together on a shoestring $58 million (for the genre), Deadpool raked in a whopping $783 million worldwide. Long story short, it didn’t take much for studio execs to greenlight Ryan’s plans for this year’s follow-up.

How did the team decide on director David Leitch to direct the sequel?

Deadpool John Wick “Everybody was just a fan of his work. He’s just a guy who’s so muscular with his action. He also really understands those Deadpool sensibilities and where we need to take the franchise from here. And I love John Wick.”

Is it true that you weren’t allowed to do your own stunts?

“No, years ago I busted my neck on a movie – so I’m not allowed to do things where I might break my neck again. Otherwise, I sort of have to do all the other stuff. My doctor jokingly wrote on a prescription pad, ‘Stuntman’!”

It must’ve taken a lot of discipline to achieve your superhero-grade torso for this film, but what’s your cheat meal of choice?

“Is it really unhealthy if it makes you so happy? There’s a Patsy’s Pizza up in Harlem that’s pretty much the best pizza on the whole planet.”
