THE LION BY NICK & SCOTT

Award-winning chefs Nick Alvis and Scott Price try their hand at pub grub

-

The Black Lion in The H Dubai has undergone a bit of a makeover. The East End-inspired pub is now simply called The Lion, and its new landlords are homegrown culinary heroes Nick Alvis and Scott Price (the men behind another British restaurant – Folly, at Madinat Jumeirah).

One of the duo’s first moves has been to launch a brunch that is a celebration of British food. The menu doesnt’t try to be fancy and is aimed at a brunch crowd looking for a low-key Friday.

All dishes are served a la carte and starters included buttermilk chicken wings and quail scotch eggs, although the menu highlight during What’s On’s visit was a high-quality portion of veal sausage rolls served with a barbecue dip.

For mains, you get to choose from fish and chips, Angus burger, lamb biryani, and beef pudding with mash and gravy. Desserts continue the British theme and will take UK expats back to school dinners, but in a good way – think big servings of toffee pudding and apple crumble with custard.

Every single plate and bowl at our table was scraped clean and The Lion’s brunch is a refreshing addition to the city’s scene, offering a welcome change of pace without skimping on quality.
