Run an ultramarathon in December, and sweat it out at a new bootcamp

Think you’ve got what it takes to run 270km over five days? Dubai Sports Council is hosting the Al Marmoom Ultra marathon this winter, with a route that’ll take in the scenery of the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.

The marathon offers three gruelling distances to choose from: the world’s longest desert run at 270km, or 50km and 100km runs. Runners will compete for total prize money of USD $80,000, with elite runners expected to take part (although it is open to the general public as well).

The 270km route is divided into five stages, and includes overnight camping. The 50km and 100km distances are continuous races and include overnight camping before the start.

The marathon promises to test not only your physical endurance but mental stamina too; terrain will change from hard sand tracks to soft moving dunes. Participants will also be able to spot wildlife along the desert route. Registration closes on November 30 or sooner if fully booked. December 11 to 15
