Run an ul­tra­ma­rathon in De­cem­ber, and sweat it out at a new bootcamp

Think you’ve got what it takes to run 270km over five days? Dubai Sports Coun­cil is host­ing the Al Mar­moom Ul­tra marathon this win­ter, with a route that’ll take in the scenery of the Al Mar­moom Desert Con­ser­va­tion Re­serve.

The marathon of­fers three gru­elling dis­tances to choose from: the world’s long­est desert run at 270km, or 50km and 100km runs. Run­ners will com­pete for to­tal prize money of USD $80,000, with elite run­ners ex­pected to take part (al­though it is open to the gen­eral pub­lic as well).

The 270km route is di­vided into five stages, and in­cludes overnight camp­ing. The 50km and 100km dis­tances are con­tin­u­ous races and in­clude overnight camp­ing be­fore the start.

The marathon prom­ises to test not only your phys­i­cal en­durance but men­tal stamina too; ter­rain will change from hard sand tracks to soft mov­ing dunes. Par­tic­i­pants will also be able to spot wildlife along the desert route. Reg­is­tra­tion closes on Novem­ber 30 or sooner if fully booked. De­cem­ber 11 to 15
