“The very first issue of What’s

On was supposed to be printed a month earlier, but just as the magazine had gone to print, the alcohol licensing laws changed. As a result, we had to stop the press, remove all references to alcohol, and properly launch the magazine a month later. I also removed my name underneath my Editor’s Letter just in case it was the first – and last – issue to be published!

The cover was made from a collage of photographs that I put on a cardboard base. We made it on the floor of my designer friend Brian Adam’s apartment. The original cover is still hanging in my office. He helped lay out the first six issues until we could employ our first designer.”
