What's On (Dubai)

THE MAKING OF THIS ISSUE HAS GOT ME FEELING REFLECTIVE

-

In putting together our awards issue, we look back on the brilliant feats of the last year. And what a twelve months our city has had. With growth, ambition, and innovation at the top of Dubai’s vocabulary during the last year, we’ve welcomed a slew of new restaurants, seen events of epic scale return, and seen the eyes of the world turn to our city for the debut of some huge hotels.

Dubai’s restaurant scene is bigger and better than ever. Much credit can be given to the international brands that continue to bring global flavour to our shores. In the last 12 months, we’ve welcomed names including The Nice Guy, La Mar by Gastón Acurio (reviewed on p40), and most recently the legendary Fouquet’s, our verdict of which you’ll find on p38. But the rapidly developing homegrown restaurant sector cannot be overlooked. Restaurants such as Chic Nonna, Moonrise, Fusion Ceviche and Dibba Bay – all What’s On Dubai Award-winners – are making huge strides towards putting our city’s gastronomy on the global stage. Meet them, and all the other deserving What’s On Dubai Award winners, from p19.

As well as reflection, the month of Ramadan is another perfect opportunity to rest and reset, which is exactly what you’ll find me doing this month. I’ll be switching sharing all the details on what’s on in Dubai for the only thing that brings me more joy: spending time with my three-year-old niece, Poppy. She’s in charge of planning the ultimate itinerary, which most likely means a week of playing hide and seek, hanging out with Peppa Pig, and listening to the Frozen soundtrack on repeat. I’ve never been more excited to hear

Let It Go fifty times over.

Enjoy the issue,
