TOUGHEN UP
FA SH IO N G OES GR E EN
Isimply loved the story about John Dabrowski in l ast weekend’s issue ( When the going gets tough, the tough get going, May 27). Clichéd though the phrase may sound, there is so much truth to it. The black dot theory, for one, is something we can all relate to. Think about it: if we continuously focus on the negative situations in our lives, we are unconsciously inviting these emotions to settle deep within us. Contrary to this, if we focus on the things or events that we are grateful for, we can never, ever stop driving towards our goals — thus paving the way for positive vibes to seep into our existence, and stay. A former basketball star, John goes on to emphasise this — and wonderfully so, if I may add — with simple, yet very profound, principles — namely, the five pillars of mental toughness. For me, at least, this has become my new mantra. I know that there will be many roadblocks along with way, but what matters now is not how I begin. My success lies inhow I react and respond to these situations, and this is what will ultimately decide how I finish. Mental toughness and resilience are what I need to focus on, going forward, and I thank John for explainingl i i thish i in i very simple,i l explicit terms. In theseever- changing and challenging times, it will surely be the tough who survive. And I’d like to thank bothjohn and wknd. for reiterating these pillars. Here’s looking forward to a successful tomorrow!
