Fellowship of the ring

- Sushmita Bose Editor

Whenever I watch anything cinematic broadly based on a friendship theme — like, say, Dil Chahta Hain or Dostana or the TV series Friends — I always imagine that the reel- life characters remain friends forever, meeting everyday at Central Perk, or over weekends at some spot on the beach. I don’t like to be given reality checks where I’m told that “so- and- so and so- and- so, who played fast friends in so- and- so movie, actually [ in real life, that is] cannot bear the sight of each other — they’re that competitive”. Film industry insiders are full of stories about stars being at each other’s throats, getting miffed with each other at the drop of a hat, their egos being larger- thanlife so there’s no time and space for “genuine feelings”, etc. This week, I read about Bollywood stud Ranveer Singh trying to be a good friend to his “colleagues” in the film fraternity; he’s going out of his way to be free with compliments, and give everyone a pat on the back. Nice gesture, I thought; and one that’s paying off... everyone is beginning to return the favour. Who knows, the big, bad world of showbiz might soon see a humanising of sorts. Read about Ranveer’s top act in this issue, and be inspired.

Also meet Luisa Rosas, a jewellery designer, who hails from a Portuguese family of goldsmiths; Luisa has her sights set on the Dubai market for her wares — because this is where all the glittering action is. Fashion designer mother- daughter duo Neeta and Nishka Lulla talk about how their works complement one another. In Travel, we go a- punting in Cambridge, and then take a tour of the historic university town. Breakfast recipes that pack in a punch in Kitchen Classics. All this and much more. Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend.
