You may be asked to lend a helping hand to a friend and will be rewarded in the weeks ahead. Outdoor activities are full of promise; you may be the centre of attention. If you are unhappy in your career, you’ll need to face what is causing you dissatisfaction. Good news concerning your partner’s income can be expected.

There are two kinds of people in the world. Those whose suitcases come at once on the airport baggage carousel, and those who have tried every trick in the book and still have to wait till the cows come home.

Checked in early, checked in late, checked in with shabby bags, done it with matching branded luggage. Makes no difference, everyone is going home except you and it is always the ones next to you who seem to get their bags first.

And all those false hopes. There you are standing at the moving track and it is unbelievable how many people in the world have red ribbons tied to suitcases with that blue- ish, grey- ish, brown- ish colour that is beyond the scope of the human race to describe.

And from very far, as it turns the corner, it looks like yours and at 20 metres, it still looks like yours, and then at 5 metres, hope begins to sink and yet you grab it and losing your balance, you staggeringly check t he name. It i s Karunakaran Kutty and that is not you, not by a long mile. So you drop it back and this scenario repeats itself several times while everyone around you is picking up their gross- looking luggage and swanning off.

Then the carousel stops for some reason and there is only a sprinkling of you left, and you are now sure it has gone — like in, never got loaded on board and then, presto, there comes one shabby bag with ragged red ribbon and you grin evilly at the five people left as if to say, “Ha, take that, my friend.”

Speaking of friends, isn’t it incredible how we establish a relationship with total strangers at airports while waiting for that stampede called boarding call and on flights because they are sitting next to you? In no time at all, we bond like superglue. We become buddies and share semi- confidences, and unravel our whole l i f e story, show f amily pictures, say things like, “Normally, I never talk to strangers — but this was an unusual exception,” and the other person says, “True, it was a pleasure meeting you, made the flight so much fun.”

And you are now a band of brothers; you even wait for each other at immigration so you can walk to belt number 8 together and, while waiting, exchange numbers on newly re- ignited mobile phones and
