Airport friendships… only till the bags come ( Mar 3) was an interesting read. In earlier days, friendships made in trains and planes lasted long beyond the journey. I particularly remember a couple from Mumbai who were my travelling companions while I was on my way to Jabalpur. They showered me with bhujias, namkeens and what- have- you, and shouted me down when I ordered lunch, forcing me to gorge on the parathas and achar they had bought along. Today, the hours I spend at airports give me a great deal of hope. The more I talk to strangers from all over the world, the more I see the universality of love. Though our conversations are short, the connection is real. We humans are far more alike than we are different. If you are feeling stressed about the current state of the world and our society, I urge you to talk to strangers. You may be surprised by how few words it takes to turn people into friends.
