STOP WINTER WEIGHT GAIN

Every year I struggle to maintain motivation to train and end up succumbing to the inevitable winter weight gain. Any advice to help keep me on track?

Max, you need to quit whining and make a few steadfast and solid commitments to a productive and healthy autumn and winter. The two ‘fears’ that resonate loudly with your question is that you fear commitment and the ultimate fear of disappointing yourself. I’m going to give you some simple steps that will address these fears and also make this off-season smashingly successful!

FEAR OF COMMITMENT

Have a plan and DON’T procrastinate. The plan has to be implemented like a daily appointment with yourself.

FEAR OF DISAPPOINTMENT

Only you control your destiny. Have faith in your plan. If you stay consistent you’ll elevate your fitness, not just maintain it! Disappointment comes in waves so don’t let even one start!

QUICK-ACTION STEPS

My comments are a bit harsh but you need to be aware that an indoor session can be challenging, fun and rewarding. Secondly, a 1 to 2% gain in weight over the winter and spring is acceptable and manageable. After all, this potential gain could be lean muscle mass not fat. If you stay focused, you’ll thrive over the winter. The key to having a successful off-season is to develop the right mental game, execute your weekly plan and stay committed to eating properly over the winter months. These are all massive subjects on their own, but I’ve developed a few simple tips here to help get you started on each of the three areas.
