WHY RECOVERY MATTERS

WHY IS AFTER SPORTS RECOVERY SO IMPORTANT, AND WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP TO REDUCE THOSE ACHES AND PAINS?

-

MUSCLE RETENTION, RECOVERY AND GROWTH

You know the feeling – running that last kilometre just a little faster, pushing it on the final sprint, doing those 10 extra reps! When you hit the point that you have nothing else left to give, a sense of accomplishment washes over you, you’ve reached that goal and a new benchmark! Those are the workouts that really count, help us get better and make us feel like we’re improving. However that intensive work has an impact on your muscles, tearing the tissue and causing damage. That’s entirely normal, but to continue improving it’s important to recover and take care of your muscles so that the damage heals and you become stronger. With a proper recovery programme you can ensure that you’re ready to train again!

HOW DOES RECOVERY WORK AND WHY DO YOU NEED PROTEIN?

The more intensive your workout, the more important the recovery programme, so that you retain and increase your muscle mass. Your muscles have the highest capacity for recovery in the first two hours after exercise, and particularly within the first 30mins.

During recovery it is important to rehydrate and replenish carbohydrates but taking protein gives your muscles a little extra attention. Your body converts protein from the food into amino acids which are then absorbed. These amino acids are like building blocks that are used to make new protein for muscles. Extensive research shows that 20g of protein is the optimum amount for recovery, which is also why every Vifit Sport portion (one bar, one drink and one shake) contains 20g of protein.
