LEZYNE MACRO DRIVE 1100XL

£90 With multiple modes, is this a do-it-all light?

-

Lezyne has forged a reputation for stylish design, whether it’s lights, multi-tools or floor pumps. And so it is with the slick-looking 1100XL, which is much more road appropriate at 150g than the Cateye. Arguably, that 1,100-lumen max is still overkill for most road riding – a fact Lezyne recognise by terming this mode ‘overdrive’. You’re more likely to switch into one of the other six settings: blast (650 lumens), enduro (450), economy (150) and femto (15); pulse (150); and flash (150). Battery life stretches from 100mins in overkill to just over 8hrs on economy and a huge 78hrs in the shard of light that is femto. For commuting, pulse and flash were the turn-to modes, and enduro proved adequate for rural and urban combos. The beam is fine, though wider and less exact than the Cateye. Charging is again via micro-USB, though use the one provided as we found other cables were too wide to fit into the deep recess. The rubber mount’s secure and easily applied or removed. Our model also came with a remote switch to avoid cycling one-handed - a nod to safety, but adds clutter upfront – and a neat direct mount system to maximise GPS and accessories placement. The light on its own is £20 cheaper. upgradebikes.co.uk
