PEARL IZUMI SELECT AMFIB
£119.99 Pearl Izumi has made huge in-roads into the UK’s tri, cycling and running markets, as well as a cranking up of quality, especially in their bike shoes. That’s why the Select AmFIB is a disappointment. It’s not poor; it’s just uninspiring. At the heart of that discomfort is the semi-form fit, which is ‘intended for layering underneath… anything from a base layer to a thermal jersey’. That’s fine and explains its less than stealth-like cut, but we’ve worn much closer cuts than this with layers beneath without compromising comfort. In short, the fit lacks that performance edge we’ve come to expect of bike jackets, certainly the windproof ones. Yes, it keeps you warm without being boiling, but it’s not the most breathable. One large, rear zipped pocket, mild droptail and uninspiring colourway completes the moderate offering. pearlizumi.co.uk
