LEZYNE MEGA XL GPS

£180 Is the feature-packed Mega worth the spend?

-

The Mega XL is one of two new GPS devices launched by Lezyne in 2018, claiming to offer a huge 48hrs of battery life. It has a monochrome screen yet is priced the same as their colour-screened Mega C, but the Mega XL boasts a larger 320 x 400 display and can show up to 10 data fields at once. On paper it has everything the Wahoo has for less money, and even extras including offline mapping and rerouting. There are plenty of mounting options, with Lezyne’s X-Lock out-front mount included in the box that’s useful for adding an additional front light and/or action camera. While there are many features and Lezyne’s app is easy to navigate, in general use it’s a little clunky. The buttons aren’t intuitive and are awkwardly positioned on the sides making them difficult to access when you’re riding. But there are loads of connected features, included structured workouts, auto-syncing with Strava and offline-mapping and rerouting. The mapping is impressive, with the turnby-turn navigation clear and easy to follow on the screen. With GPS on and occasional use of the backlight it didn’t quite last 48hrs, but run time is far longer than any other GPS we’ve used. upgradebikes.co.uk
