GORE 1985 SHAKEDRY
£250 Waterproof bike jacket
Ah, 1985, the year of Back to the Future and Gore’s debut Gore-Tex jacket, which this updated version pays tribute to. For keeping you dry in the wet, the precipitation protection provided by the C5’s incredibly light (116g), twolayer material is up there with the Castelli Idro (£260) as the best around, and we’ve yet to experience any water intrusion in the wettest of conditions. Breathability is great for this level of waterproofing, it’s stretchy, windproof and it stows away neatly into the handy front zip pocket. So why isn’t the score even higher? Sadly it’s not recommended for use with backpacks (it’ll ruin the waterproofing treatment), rendering it unsuitable for most commuting and making that £250 price tag tougher to take. gorewear.com
