SIMON WARD
The founder and co-owner of TheTriathlonCoach.com explains the secrets behind his coaching success Q How has your approach to coaching triathlon changed over the years? A The biggest change for me is that I feel like I’m much more of a life coach now. Writing and delivering a training plan is the easiest part for me and for the athletes I work with. Far more challenging is helping them find solutions to the everyday issues that interrupt their training and cause them stress. I also focus far more on firstly keeping them healthy and then building their fitness. Q What are the 3 key tips that you think all novice triathletes should know? A 1 Focus on the basics; 2 Get your technique right; 3 Take a longterm approach. Q What do you enjoy most from coaching athletes? A Watching them progress and helping them to achieve goals that they never thought possible.
