OVERALL VERDICT
Riding these two bikes from Wilier and Cinelli has proven how great it is to ride Campagnolo again, an experience that unleashed memories of riding bikes a decade or two ago. Hopefully, the Italian groupset great has a future as well as a history and will be with us for another 85 years.
But, nostalgia and future dreams aside, what about for your do-it-all triathlon machine? Both Cinelli and Wilier offer lovely, comfortable rides that will appeal to a wide range of leisure, fitness and endurance riders. Both possess plenty of Italian style that’ll stand out from the big hitters of Giant, Specialized, Trek et al when you’re on club rides or wheeling your ride into transition come your next race-day venture.
Yet it’s the Cinelli that just edges the battle of the Campagnolo-equipped endurance road bikes. The Saetta Italio is built on a tried-and-trusted frame, it handles the rougher stuff well and the £1.6k price makes it a great value bike for logging mile after mile of training, but with enough of a racing edge for competition time. And all with plenty of Latin style.
