After launching as a swim tool and receiving a glowing review from us in 2019, the Incus Nova is back with additional running metrics. Our Swim Run Bundle included the Nova device, FIIN vest and T-Strap (a run tee is available for an extra £49.99).

After connecting to the Incus app, simply turn the Nova on, slip it into the pouch at the back of the top and press go on your phone to start recording. The T-Strap also has mounting holes to attach a HR monitor. The upload takes a while at the end of your session, but you’re then taken through the insightful metrics from your run including cadence, power, take-off, and landing and stride phases. Click the question mark and Incus will offer tips and targets. Seeing cadence and ground contact time will undoubtedly prove useful for improvement, while more detailed session ‘insights’ and smartwatch integration are coming with future updates.

Swim analytics are impressive, although on some occasions the device didn’t quite break down our sessions correctly. Despite our reservations, the FIIN vest isn’t at all restrictive for swimming or running.

The Incus Nova is promising, but we feel watch compatibility and more integration are needed before the run function becomes the finished article. When cycling metrics arrive in late 2022, the Nova could really take off as the ultimate tech tool for triers. 78 %
