Anna Berner has used an imaginative palette of vibrant colours to bring a tired 1950s house back to life
This striking coastal home in Finland is full of bright colours and decorative details
When interior designer Anna Berner found the ideal family holiday home in the seaside town of Hanko, Finland, it wasn’t the nearby beach that excited her most – it was the chance to decorate using bright, vibrant colours.
‘I love colour,’ enthuses Anna, owner of Textura Interior Design Company. ‘Many of my clients mostly prefer the typical Scandinavian palette of whites, greys and blacks. I come across so many vibrant fabrics, wallpapers and paints and until now I haven’t had the opportunity to use them.’
After buying the house four years ago Anna has completely redesigned the interior, which previously housed the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living areas on the first floor. ‘The location attracted us, but the layout wasn’t logical,’ says Anna. ‘The upstairs was the living area, the sitting room was where our master bedroom is now, while the bathroom was once the dining room, and the downstairs, which is now our kitchen-diner, used to be a garage.’
With her wealth of experience, Anna set about creating a comfortable, easy to live in
