An eco pub with beautiful vintage-style interiors is inspiring us this month
Each month we bring you a scheme that delights, dazzles and intrigues
The Bull Inn pub in the pretty south Devon town of Totnes is a labour of love by Geetie Singh-watson, who has created a haven committed to ethical sustainability. Everything that enters the kitchen is certified organic and comes from mostly local suppliers. Geetie has taken a similar approach with the pub’s decor. The building has undergone extensive restoration, with lime-plaster walls, solar panels and a heat recapture system that warms the ground floor.
Designed with environmental impact in mind, each of the bedrooms has a chic, pared-back scheme, with reclaimed, recycled and handcrafted furnishings. Guests can sleep soundly on mattresses made in nearby Exeter with organic fibres and Dartmoor wool, covered in local, organic Greenfibres bed linen. Our favourite bedroom is Room no. 5, a large double room with rose-hued panels, raw ochre plaster walls and an exposed Victorian fireplace, offering a comfortable, cosy space with a subtle ‘rough luxe’ vibe.
On a practical note, there’s ample space for storage, provided by cleverly designed built-in nooks and a large mahogany dresser. A vintage desk, reupholstered armchair and standard lamp at the window give a traditional nod to the building’s 18th-century past, while the room’s muted tones, simple lighting (bespoke Rodney Lomas lamps finished with porcelain shades from Pippi & Me Ceramics), rustic hemp flooring and discreet Bluetooth and Wi-fi sound system keep the style firmly in the present.
