Some mod­ern comics work with strong out­lines, a bit of shad­ows and smooth colour tran­si­tion ef­fects. Smooth colour tran­si­tion ef­fects can be achieved with en­vi­ron­men­tal light­ing and or with colour gra­di­ents which will be plugged into the base colour map di­rectly. If you are mak­ing use of legacy 3ds Max maps, then it is rec­om­mended to ac­ti­vate the sup­port of legacy tex­ture maps in the sys­tem field within the ren­der­ing prop­er­ties. You should be aware that the light colour plays a sig­nif­i­cant role in build­ing scenes for a comic style, so the light colour can hold a coloured gra­di­ent as well.
