PORSCHE RARITIES AT ESSEN FROMMASHMOTOR

Early 930 Turbo and 928 with history will appeal to collectors

-

Following its 917K-racing success in the early ’70s, Porsche decided to use its expertise with turbocharged race cars to build the ultimate road going 911: the 911 Turbo. When launched at the Paris Salon in October 1974, it was built to perfection and priced accordingly at more than twice the price of a standard 911.

Due to overwhelming demand for the new flagship model and the very limited production of only 274 cars, Porsche offered the first cars to ‘friends of the factory.’ Celebrities, royals and even Steve Mcqueen would have to wait for their cars or settle for 1976 models.

Thanks to the guys at Mashmotor, there will be an opportunity to see and, indeed, buy one of the inuagural 274 cars produced for the 1975 model year, at this year’s Techno Classica Essen show, to be held from April 10–14th. In Copper Diamond metallic, this car is ’70s perfect and 930 Turbo expert and author, Ryan Snodgrass, estimates that only 20–30 of these early cars remain in the world today. This car will make a great addition to any concourse collection of Zuffenhausen’s absolute finest.

And while you’re at Essen, check out also Mashmotor’s breathtakingly original early 1978 928. This car was delivered to the VAG Porsche Centre in Stockholm, Sweden as an exhibition car. Shortly after it was featured in Teknikens Varld, Scandinavia’s most reputable car magazine, in a nine-page article. This particular car has represented the unique 928 design at countless exhibitions, the most recent being the 40th Anniversary Jubilee for Porsche Norway in 2018.
