NEW PORSCHE CLASSIC PCM UNITS
There are better equipped, more competitively priced head units on the market, but many of you love the idea of furnishing the cockpit of your cars with kit from Porsche Classic regardless of specification, which is why the brand had no qualms in replacing its retro-look, single-din, navigation-included PCCM (Porsche Classic Communication Management) unit with a successor offering DAB+ and Apple Carplay. Following the 996 reaching classic status (certainly as far as Porsche is concerned), a new double-din version of the system — billed as PCCM Plus — was also launched in mid-
April. Boasting a seven-inch touchscreen display and designed to seamlessly sit in the dashboard of a 986-generation Boxster or 996-generation 911, the double-din unit carries support for Android Auto, which is just as well, because maps read from an SD card seems an extraordinarily outdated way of doing things, especially when the asking price of more than €1,600 is taken into consideration. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a head unit totally sympathetic to the design of your classic Porsche’s standard interior, then the new PCCM or PCCM Plus could be just what you’re looking for.
