964 AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
Teddy Santis, founder and Creative Director of popular New York fashion label, Aimé Leon Dore (ALD), collaborated with Porsche in the restoration of a 964 Carrera 4 unveiled at New York Fashion Week at the start of September. The unique car is the product of months of design research, including Santis’ visits to the Porsche Museum and the 911 assembly line.
The centrepiece of the car is a fully custom interior, featuring Schott sunflower leather and Loro Piana houndstooth, the same materials highlighted in ALD’S fall/winter 2020 collection. Rich top-grain leather wraps the dashboard, steering wheel and door panels, while the reverse suede side of the leather covers the headliner and sunroof. The bespoke seats were meticulously restored in the legendary Recaro workshop in Kirchheim, Germany. A Schott leather trunk with Loro Piana accents completes the interior.
The car’s bodywork is painted the same shade of white as the storefront of the ALD flagship shop located on Mulberry Street in Manhattan’s fashionable Soho neighbourhood. A rear ducktail pays homage to the classic design of the Carrera RS 2.7, while a bespoke Pegasus detail above the front Cup 2 wheels references sponsor logos applied to historic Porsche race cars. Finally, a custom-designed grille badge sits above the car’s powerful air-cooled flat-six engine. Following Fashion Week, the car is currently being exhibited at the renowned Jeffrey Deitch gallery in New York.
