PORSCHE REVEALS UNRELEASED CONCEPT CARS

-

Under the title Porsche Unseen, the Stuttgart brand published a series of design studies authored between 2005 and 2019. Fifteen different cars are featured, each falling into one of four categories (Spin-offs, Little Rebels, Hypercars and What’s Next?). The concepts give exclusive insight into the design process at Porsche, from the very first drawing of a car, to the finished model ready for series production.

As reported in these pages at the time of release, one of the vehicles revealed by the project is 2017’s 919 Street. Taking the form of a 1:1 clay model and developed on the basis of the technology used in the Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid, the Street proposition was intended to make the exhilarating driving experience of the LMP1 race car available to amateur drivers. Under the outer shell lies a carbon monocoque and the near 900bhp hybrid drivetrain which helped the 919 to achieve a string of victories at Le Mans. The Street’s dimensions and wheelbase are the same as those of the race car.

One of the most recent models unveiled by Porsche Unseen is the 2019 Vision Spyder. Featuring a spartan cockpit and characteristic radiator grilles over a mid-mounted engine, this low-slung al fresco sports machine was directly influenced by 1954’s 550-1500 RS Spyder. This particular design study was intended to develop the visual identity of Porsche and provide a pool of ideas for future details, such as the ultramodern roll bar.
