MARCUS ARMITAGE WINS 2021 PORSCHE EUROPEAN OPEN

For the fourth time in succession, a top golfer from England has won the Porsche European Open in Hamburg. At the event (heralding the return of the world class in Germany), Marcus Armitage left rivals trailing in his wake after a phenomenal finalround performance. He mastered the challenging course known as the ‘Green Monster’ when posting an eight under par score of 208 to leave him two shots ahead of a quartet in second place.

The event marked the first time since October 2019 spectators were permitted to attend a European Tour event. Due to the latest regulations, the tournament was put back two days and reduced to three rounds, but these conditions didn’t prevent sensational golf from being played. “We’ve seen some great sport here and having spectators at the venue is a real success story. After all, emotional live experiences are a key feature of the Porsche brand,” commented Deniz Keskin, Director of Brand Management and Partnerships at Porsche AG. Excitement was also offered up in the form of Porsches offered as prizes: though the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo on the seventeenth hole didn’t find a new owner during the three days of the tournament, the Leader’s Car, billed as a new Taycan Turbo S, produced a big smile on the faces of Belgian, Thomas Detry, and Englishman, Matthew Southgate, the pair of players topping the leaderboard after the first two rounds.

Paul Casey, also had a lot of fun, chiefly at the first Night Shootout prior to the main event. “Playing the seventeenth hole in darkness with unusual illumination was pretty cool,” said the Porsche brand ambassador, who finished sixth. Even though it wasn’t enough to claim the win, Casey was highly positive when reviewing his performance. “The Porsche European Open is absolutely one of the tournaments the boys like to play,” he confirmed. “We are extremely grateful to organisers for hosting the competition, considering the challenges presented by the pandemic. Well done to all involved.”
